Tuckers welcomes a Department of Constitutional Affairs decision to subject all new government policies to scrutiny. The new procedure will ensure that any impact on the legal aid fund is known in advance.
Andrew Keogh, partner at Tuckers said:
"Recent research has shown that lawyers are not responsible for the enormous rise in legal aid spending. The costs drivers are to be found in new legislation over which the legal profession has no control. The legal aid system is near to collapse and hopefully this measure will go some way to providing much needed control over indiscriminate policy making."
